WASHINGTON

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) takes on second amendment challenges beginning oral arguments on a hand gun licensing law in New York.

Today arguments centered on New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs. Bruen.

The case challenges the constitutional right to open carry.

Gun right advocates argue that the New York law is too restrictive.

Opponents to the challenge claim the law exists to reduce violence, specifically relying avoidance of crime in high density areas.

During arguments, the court challenged prosecutors to produce empirical data that would suggest open carry would lead to increase crime.
