One of the remarkable standouts from the north is Ty Kailing of Reed City High School.

He signed his letter of intent to run on the Alpena Community College men's cross country team.  The Coyote was an all-conference runner, who medaled multiple times in the regionals.  He also helped the Coyotes reach the cross country high school state finals for the first time in almost 40 years.  Kailing also considered Lansing and Muskegon community colleges.  Alpena has one of the top cross country teams in the region.  He says the success of the program, is one of the reasons, why he's signing on.
