Homicide and Child/Elder Abuse detectives are investigating a June 14 death, which was recently ruled to be a homicide by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

On June 8 at approximately 12:07 p.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of Fanwood Avenue regarding a report of an unknown trouble, and someone was being strangled.

When officers arrived, the found 52 year old Jennifer Dail inside a home leaning over 83 year old James Brooks with her hands around his neck. Officers immediately entered the home and took Dail into custody without incident.

The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and rendered medical aid to the victim. The victim was alert, had no signs of serious injuries, and he declined transportation to a local hospital.

Detectives say the Brooks and Dail are relatives.

Shortly after the incident, Dail called 9-1-1, and since Brooks requires 24-hour medical care, a caregiver who was present at the time of the incident, gave details to dispatchers on the suspect’s phone.
