Dangerous Temperatures Recorded in the US
(NEWSnet) — The end is not near for the dangerous temperatures that have been blanketing much of the U.S.
The oppressive heat scorching large portions of the South and West for weeks is expected to continue.
Miami reached a heat index of 110 degrees Fahrenheit, just shy of the record of 112 F.
El Paso, Texas, has been past the 100 F mark for 32 days in a row.
Meanwhile, Phoenix has reached 110 F and above for 19 consecutive days.
The last time Phoenix didn't reach 110 F was June 29, when it hit 108. The record of 19 days above 110 that was tied Monday was first set in 1974.
It is unclear when the heat will break.
All of the southern U.S. has been under a heat dome with temperature records shattered from California to Florida and the globe itself is the hottest its been on record for much of the summer.
