(NEWSnet) — The Midwest is a popular retirement destination, according to both Forbes and Consumer Affairs.

This year, Forbes, a publication known for its surveys, lists Traverse City, Mich., Iowa City, Iowa, and Madison, Wis., on their list of best places to retire. Locales Colorado and Oregon are also high up on the list.

Forbes considered several characteristics, including the percentage of the population over 65, cost of living, leisure activities, and climate change.

Wildfires in places like Arizona and California don’t have as much cache, and Florida is facing a similar issue with floods and hurricanes. While that’s not new for Florida, with home insurers pulling out of the state, the cost of regular floods means trouble for those already on a fixed income.

Consumer Affairs shares a similar perspective, with four of their top five in the Midwest, with Lincoln, Neb., and St. Louis, Mo., taking top spots. The study did not consider climate change as prevalent as Forbes.

WalletHub released its report earlier this week, including the usual suspects, including places in Florida and Arizona.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, access to quality healthcare was a more significant factor in this year’s report than in years past.
