First Votes Cast as Republican Primary Begins in New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H. (NEWSnet/AP) — Voting has begun in New Hampshire, the first state to hold 2024 presidential primary elections although Iowa held its caucus last week.
The Republican primary race is already down to just two major candidates, former president Donald Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Trump won the Iowa GOP caucus, Haley has dedicated significant time and financial resources to her campaign in New Hampshire.

In the first results released early Tuesday, all six registered voters of the community of Dixville Notch, cast their ballots for Haley. The resort town is the only one in New Hampshire this year that opted to vote at midnight.
The other polling locations statewide will close in the evening, with times ranging from 7 to 8 p.m.
Democrats were also holding a primary Tuesday, but under unusual circumstances.
President Joe Biden supported the Democratic National Committee rules that set the party’s 2024 primary calendar starting Feb. 3 in South Carolina.
New Hampshire residents, citing state laws dictating that their state hold the nation’s first primary after Iowa’s caucus, defied the revamped order and scheduled their primary ahead of the others.
Since Biden’s name won’t be on the New Hampshire ballot, some of the state’s top Democrats are supporting a write-in campaign on his behalf.
