Each year volunteers of the Elk Rapids Fire Department vote to name one of their own “Fire Fighter of the Year”.

Well, the department has announced who won the award.

The department tells us this coveted award is given to the firefighter that most portray the department’s commitment of service to the community, fellow fire fighters, and self.

This year’s recipient is Fire Fighter Joe Fischer.

Firefighter Fischer joined the Elk Rapids Fire Department in 2013 and during this time has answered a plethora of calls for service to the community.

We are told Joe has spent many hours training over the last couple of years and has been very active at community events.

Joe is always willing to help out whenever needed.

Joe has also recently become a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

We are also told Joe has served as association President and was recently elected as their Lieutenant for the next 2 years.

Joe is truly dedicated to his community and the department says they are very lucky to have him on their team!

Congratulations to Fire Fighter Joe Fischer for being chosen as 2023’s Fire Fighter of the Year!
