(NEWSnet) – The whiplash-like weather swings this week in parts of the lower Great Lakes and Midwest included suspected tornadoes in multiple locations Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

"A night tornado in February is rare as well as the mild temps," the Grand Blanc (Michigan) Police Department posted on its Facebook page when relating what its officers saw and the damage in their community after a suspected tornado struck about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

In the Chicago area, the local NWS Bureau said there are "likely several tornadoes" to be confirmed in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Its staff will have an update later Wednesday on the damage and weather situation.

Part of Illinois and much of Indiana was included in a tornado watch Tuesday. Lower Michigan had tornado warnings overnight Tuesday amid its severe thunderstorm watch. Central Ohio had a tornado watch and tornado warnings lingering into early Wednesday.

Tornado watches also lingered Wednesday morning in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.

NBC 5 in Chicago reported there may have been as many as four tornadoes in separate locations in its region Tuesday, amid the golf-ball size hail.

And there was property damage and temporary evacuations in Grand Blanc, but no injuries reported, its police department said.

The website poweroutage.us, which curates power outage reports by location, showed over 25,000 customers without electricity in Ohio and over 14,000 customers without electricity in Michigan as of 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The tornado season in the country's midsection appears to be off to an early start, as Wisconsin also had a rare for its region February tornado on Feb. 8.
