LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWSnet) — Los Angeles Police have arrested a suspect who fled to San Diego after police say he assaulted two separate women.

Police say the assaults occurred on April 6 in the Venice Canal community.

At 10:30 p.m., a woman was walking in the 2700 block of Strongs Drive when police say 29-year-old Anthony Jones approached her from behind and hit her with a hard object, rendering her unconscious.

About an hour later, police say Jones similarly attacked another woman as she was walking near the Sherman Canal.

On April 11, police found and arrested Jones on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. Bail was set at $3,250.000.

This investigation is still ongoing, and both victims are continuing to recover from the serious injuries they sustained.

Police tell us that investigators are not ruling out the likelihood that the women may have been sexually assaulted.
