LONDON (NEWSnet/AP) – King Charles III of the United Kingdom will start public duties again next week, after treatment for a recent cancer diagnosis.

Buckingham Palace made the announcement Friday, saying the first of those official visits will be Tuesday at a cancer treatment center. King Charles will be accompanied by his wife Queen Camilla, at that event.

The king and queen also plan to hose the emperor and empress of Japan for a state visit in June.

Charles stepped away public appearances almost three months ago to focus on his treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.

The palace didn’t provide an update on the king’s health or his treatment, though it says that the “medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King’s continued recovery.″

Charles continued some of his duties, including reviewing government documents and meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, after his diagnosis was disclosed on Feb. 5.

With the Princess of Wales, the former Kate Middleton, also on medical leave related to cancer, there have been fewer members of the royal family available for state events, awards ceremonies and other programs for which they are requested or normally participate in. For example, the queen represented the family at a Maundy Thursday service, while the king sent his greetings remotely.
