WASHINGTON (NEWSnet) — A bipartisan group of four senators recommends that Congress invest at least $32 billion over the next three years to develop artificial intelligence and place safeguards around it.

The investment would span over three years and “harness the opportunities and address the risks” for developing the technology through research development and testing.

The group said in an interview Tuesday that it is imperative to find a consensus with the technology growing more popular and other countries like China investing in its development.

While any legislation related to AI will be difficult to pass, the senators said that regulation and incentives for innovation are urgently needed.
