Richard Janvrin: Where Bronny Goes, Dad is Sure to Follow

Special to Sports News Highlights
(SNH) — According to his agent, Rich Paul, Bronny James, LeBron James’ son, will remain in the 2024 NBA Draft and forego his remaining college eligibility.
With that, James is officially headed to the NBA, but he remains one of the most polarizing prospects. He could be the No. 1 overall pick, as a team could think he’s linked to them also getting LeBron James, or go completely undrafted.
In college, James played 25 games, started six, and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, averaging less than 20 minutes per outing.
Fortunately for his draft stock, James tested as one of the more athletic players at the NBA Combine with a vertical jump of 40.5 inches (sixth best) and placed second in the three-point shooting drill.
This performance helped change the narrative of him being a prospect because of his father to a legitimate prospect because of his talent.
So, where does the former USC Trojan land in 2024? Let’s examine some landing spots.
Phoenix Suns
According to Shams Charania, the Suns are among the few teams Bronny considered from his workout invites.
The Suns currently hold the No. 22 overall pick, and James is a contender to be drafted there.
He would be a cheap asset on a roster filled with superstar talent like Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker. That’s quite the trio of players to play underneath and learn work ethic.
Also, Isaiah Thomas is a free agent, but he’d be an excellent veteran to bring back to help show Bronny the ropes. This would be an excellent team for Bronny to develop.
San Antonio Spurs
Holding the Nos. 35 and 48 overall picks, the Spurs have the second-round capital to get Bronny should he drop there.
If going to the Spurs, Bronny would be under a legendary head coach Gregg Popovich and would also be an excellent guard to develop as he helps make Victor Wembanyama shine.
Bronny’s athleticism could come in handy to help get the most out of Wembanyama’s game.
Utah Jazz
Jazz owner Ryan Smith is one of the most well-known owners in the NBA, and he’s now breaking into the NHL. Drafting Bronny would be an excellent move for both on-the-court and the marketing aspects of the brands he’s growing.
Lauri Markkanen is a free agent in 2025, but adding a player like Bronny James with a year of development could create an exciting combination along with John Collins and Collin Sexton.
Plus, who knows? The addition of LeBron James, along with those players, could make for a potential starting lineup of Bronny James, Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, LeBron James and John Collins.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Mike Conley isn’t getting any younger, but as long as he’s on the team, what better player to learn the point guard position from than him?
Let’s say Conley plays in 2024-25 and calls it quits. After that, Bronny could be the starting guard on a team with Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jaden McDaniels.
His athleticism would enable him to be a distributor of the basketball to these supremely talented players and replenish the point guard position as a notable veteran leaves the league.
Los Angeles Lakers
You knew we weren’t leaving this list without the Lakers.
Lebron and Bronny James on the same team would be storylines galore.
Let’s make this happen, NBA.
