M-20 was shut down in the Village of Mecosta as police dealt with a domestic situation.

It started just before 1 p.m. Friday.

Mecosta County Sheriff's Deputies were initially dispatched to a home at the intersection of Franklin Street and M-20 after a man became violent with a woman.

He then barricaded himself inside, allegedly making threats against law enforcement using a high-powered deer rifle.

Due to the home’s proximity to Mecosta Elementary, the school was partially evacuated and placed into a lockdown.

Deputies, State Police troopers, and conservation officers eventually entered the house and were unable to find the man.

He was, however, later located at another home in Mecosta where he was taken into custody.

The suspect has not been identified as the investigation continues.
