(NEWSnet) – Forecasts called for the busiest air travel summer in years. Those predictions have proven out with the busiest day expected this season still three weeks away.

The Transportation Security Administration’s ticker of top 10 busiest travel days in number of passengers already has six spots filled with dates in the past three weeks.

That list includes May 24, the Friday before Memorial Day, which was a record day for most passengers screened at US airports with more than 2.95 million counted, the agency reported.

Memorial Day through Labor Day was already predicted to be the highest summer passenger volumes that TSA has ever worked with since the agency was created in fall 2001.

Looking ahead: the Federal Aviation Administration predicts June 30, Sunday before July 4, will be the busiest in air travel since 2010 based on the number of flights that are scheduled.
