Multiple Injuries Reported After Shooting at Splash Park in Michigan

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - As many as nine or 10 people were injured in the aftermath of a shooting at a splash pad park Saturday evening in southeast Michigan, local authorities said
The incident, described early on as "an active shooter situation," happened about 6 p.m. at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, which is on the north side of the Detroit metro area.
By late evening, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told reporters that “it sounds like we have nine, maybe 10 victims with gunshot wounds, victims of varying kinds of injuries.”
A handgun and three empty magazines were recovered, according to the sheriff.
“So, preliminarily, it looks like the suspect fired potentially 28 times, reloading multiple times,” Bouchard said.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is the lead agency investigating, according to the Facebook post from the Rochester Hills Police Department that related preliminary details, including that there were multiple injuries.
About 7:20 p.m., the sheriff's department reported on social media that they "potentially have the suspect contained nearby," and asked people to remain away from the area. Additional details came at a news conference later.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer commented on the situation Saturday, saying on social media that she was "heartbroken to learn about the shooting in Rochester Hills."
The splash pad at Brooklands Plaza is normally open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., May through September, the parks and recreation department website said.
