U.S. Olympics Delegations Announced for Opening, Closing Ceremonies
WASHINGTON (NEWSnet) – The White House has announced the official U.S. delegations for the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies this summer in Paris.
First Lady Jill Biden will lead the delegation to the Opening of the Olympic Games, which takes place July 26. Other members of this delegation are:
- Denise Campbell Bauer, U.S. Ambassador to the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco.
- Chris Coons, U.S. Senator from Delaware.
- Alex Padilla, U.S. Senator from California.
- Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles.
- Casey Wasserman, Chairperson, LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
- Brian Boitano, three-time Olympian and Olympic gold medalist in figure skating.
- Dawn Staley, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at University of South Carolina, and three-time Olympic gold medalist in women’s basketball.
Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will lead the delegation to the Closing of the Olympic Games, which takes place Aug. 11. Other members of this delegation are:
- Denise Campbell Bauer, U.S. Ambassador to the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco.
- Laphonza Butler, U.S. Senator from California.
- Robert Garcia, U.S. Representative from California’s 42nd district.
- Chaunté Lowe, Member of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, four-time Olympian and Olympic bronze medalist, track and field.
- Briana Scurry, two-time Olympian, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and World Cup Champion in women’s soccer.
In addition, Tammy Duckworth, U.S. Senator from Illinois, will lead the delegation to the Opening of the Paralympic Games, which takes place Aug. 28.
Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, will lead the delegation to the Closing of the Paralympic Games, which takes place Sept. 8.
The additional delegation members for the Paralympics will be announced at a later date, the White House said.
