WASHINGTON (NEWSnet/AP) — With the Republican ticket settled last week, but the Democratic ticket yet to be confirmed, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are firmly on the campaign trail this week.

Here’s a look ahead:

Donald Trump campaign

Former president Trump accepted the nomination of the Republican party last week, and named Senator JD Vance from Ohio as his running mate. Wednesday’s stop in Charlotte, N.C., is his first campaign rally this week, although Trump and Vance did a joint appearance Saturday in Michigan and Vance gave his own event in Ohio.

North Carolina is a state Trump won in both the 2016 and 2020 elections; but the latter race was a close one.

The Charlotte event will take place indoors, as did the Michigan one on Saturday. Trump was targeted during an assassination attempt July 13 at an outdoor event in Pennsylvania.

Kamala Harris campaign

Vice President Harris jumped into the campaign Sunday after President Joe Biden announced he would step out of the race. The Democratic party’s formal nomination hasn’t taken place yet, but Harris picked up significant endorsements and political donations in a matter of days.

Harris gave her first rally Tuesday in Milwaukee. Her Wednesday event is at a conference for historically Black sorority Zeta Phi Beta in Indianapolis. Harris is a member of another historically Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

On Thursday, she will speak at the national convention of American Federation of Teachers in Houston.

Debate Plans

There was a televised presidential candidate debate between Trump and Biden on June 27, a scenario that became a turning point for the Democratic president with a number of calls for him to step out.

The schedule also called for Sept. 10 debate hosted by ABC. There has been discussion since Harris became the likely candidate, with no announcement either way, as to whether that will take place under those arrangements.

The plans also called for a vice presidential matchup in the summer, which has yet to be announced.
