WASHINGTON (NEWSnet/AP) — FBI Director Christopher Wray is testifying Wednesday about the bureau’s investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

The hearing before the House Judiciary Committee will represent Wray’s most detailed comments to date about the shooting. It was a previously scheduled meeting, but the attempted assassination has now taken over the agenda.

The FBI is leading the criminal investigation on the July 13 shooting; while multiple investigations have launched into what circumstances may have contributed to the incident and the near miss on Trump.

Trump, who was then the leading Republican candidate and has since accepted the party's nomination, had a minor injury to his ear as a result of the shooting July 13 in Pennsylvania. One attendee was killed, two other attendees injured. Secret Service killed the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, on scene.

Wray and other senior officials also briefed members of Congress last week.

Trump’s public appearances since then have all been at indoor venues.

In the aftermath, Kimberly Cheatle has resigned as director of the Secret Service, the deputy director is now the acting director.
